~MY ANCESTOR~ The son of JOHANN JACOB & MARY NAY, he married NANCY (maiden name unknown) in 1783 in Culpepper Co., Virginia. Pension Claim R 7563 gives the above date & place of birth for Samuel Nay, Sr. He applied for a pension on September 22, 1835 while living in Nineveh Twp., Johnson Co., Indiana based upon his military service in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in 1778 and served as a substitute for his brother, William Nay for eighteen months, again enlisted on March 1, 1781 as a substitute for John Nay and served three months in Captian Waugh's Company, Colonel Barbour's Virginia Reg., and enlisted a third time serving for three months as a private in Captain Kad Slaughter's Co., Col. John Slaughter's Virginia Reg. His request for a pension was denied based upon his failure to provide evidence that he served for six months.
He moved to Kentucky in 1788, but is buried at Nay Pines Cemetery in Ninevah, Indiana located on a knoll, the highest point in the Nay Pines bordered on the north by the Rappahannock River in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
